Embracing change:- The next level!

Every positive change in your life begins with a clear unequivocal decision that you are going to either do something or stop doing something

I can vividly recall when i was about 15 years, my mum spoke to me about changing a particular bag i loved so much. It was worn-out and needed replacement but that felt wrong. I mean, why give up something so familiar and comfortable for something new i am not sure i will like?

There was definitely no way that will happen. Until one day, my mum waited till i had slept off, took away the old bag and kept the new one she had purchased by the bedside table. You can imagine my bewilderment to wake up and find a new bag. I blew off my top. It felt like my mum had done me a great injustice. *side eyes*. Through the tantrums, my mum ignored me so after not getting the attention i hoped it will attract, i finally got to use the bag and loved it. And then i ask myself, what was all the struggle and resistance about?

Am i alone in this? I don’t think so.

Change is one word not new to us and also something a lot of us are strongly resistant to. Even if it as minor as changing a toothbrush.

Personally, it is so difficult for me to try something new when i am already used to one. There is always this nagging question of what if i don’t get something better? What if the other side is not as cool as i envisioned? Why should i lose what is familiar and autonomus to me? But Familiar is safe and safe does not bring growth.

Agreeably, change feels like loss even good change- For instance, if you have to leave a job you have been working at for over 10 years, end a ‘bad’ relationship, switch apartments, have to move to a new city, meet new persons and establish relationships all over again; but this loss feeling will disappear as soon as we walk into a worthy replacement as a result of our decision to change things.

Look around you, change is happening. The world now is definitely not what it used to be 10 years ago. Instagram for one wasn’t here 10years ago. Gmail replaced yahoo mail. Perhaps, if yahoo mail had the necessary tool to remain appealing to users, it would still be relevant now.

There is also advanced improvement in medical science for example, the genetic modification of human defective gene responsible for inherited sickness or abnormal condition in newborn infants. Amazing , right? It shows the planet is evolving and we should too.

There are times we need to step out of our comfort zone and reach out for something that terrifies us. Things we know we ought to do but have been held back by fear of the unknown.

If we let fear win and stay set in our ways, we would not allow ourself evolve. And to evolve means we unfold, extend and advance.

Humans shed skin every 28days, inorder to remove the top layer made up of dead cells to reveal new skin. If the skin does not shed, we will all have dull looking unhealthy skin.

Likewise, change is outgrowing old unfavourable habits, stepping into new elements. While we should never think making superficial transformation to our appearance or behaviour will make someone or people love us more or to discard our morals and core values in order to keep up with others, change for the sake of personal growth is healthy.

Change to improve ourselves can include taking another job, going back to school, eating clean, incorporating exercise in our daily routine, take up the internship offer you have been putting off, move to a new city to start a business, attend a training to improve your skill set, get more organised.

It could also be dealing with addictions, scheduling a session with a counsellor, making better financial decisions, developing a deeper relationship with God, volunteer at a charity organization, end that relationship you know is bad for you.

It takes a great deal of courage to embrace change, to accept new, i know. We try to convince ourselves with ‘It is too late’ ‘i am only human, what’s the need afterall?’…

Excuses! Excuses!! Excuses!!! A ploy to stall ourselves from taking a step. The good thing is we all have it in us. We only need to push past the limitation of fear and reach out to something new and beautiful.

How do we experience life and all its packages if we are too afraid to make a change? There is a dire need to work on ourselves to update to our better versions for improved performance. Our transformation positively impacts us and the lives of people around us. A better US translates to a better world, a better world is a happy place.

You can start now. One step iรฑ the right direction is better than to stay stagnant. Now or someday, you decide.

We don’t have to effect it all at once. You can begin with a call or visit, emptying your cabinents, cleaning out your closet. The days it does not fall in line, don’t beat yourself up. Keep going. The decision you have taken alone has solved half the problem. You can do it! You have the HolySpirit to help you.

Give your complete attention to these matters. Throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone will see your progress.
