Be the Greatest!

Love is the doorway through which the human soul passes from selfishness to service.

Jack Hyles

Isn’t this the sweetest definition? Just as Jesus did while on earth. Serving all who came to Him either in words, miracles, care or compassion. Love is a word we are all accustomed to. Be it as it may, do we really understand the significance of this word?

When we say the word, what do we mean? What is love?

Before anything else, we have to know God is love and He that is of God is love. If God is love personified, then you are love. Love is who you are and love is what you should do. We have been given a new nature in Christ and the very essence of this nature is proven when we rise above our selfishness to be gracious to another.

Why do we love?

There are beautiful differences in all of us. Differences in opinion or status may present a barrier but one common language everyone can understand is Love.

To love people is to see them how God sees them. It is much easier to love others when you understand how much love the Father has for us. The cross was proof of this. Sadly, there is division amongst believers. the competition of who is a better Christian and whatnot. If we cannot be loving amongst ourselves, how can we extend kindness to non-believers? Christ didn’t die for this.

Good news is, there is a way out. we can learn to give love regardless of any obstacle.

How can you give love?

First, you must accept the love of Christ wholeheartedly so it can outpour from you.

God’s love is unconditional.

You are dearly beloved by God, Secure in Him. He loves you just the way you are.

Jesus bore those painful beatings that left Him horrible stripes, drank from a cup He knew nothing about. Hung on that cross to bear our sins, it wasn’t show off nor for any crime of His.

It was God saying to us, I love you, I would do anything for you, I love you for all you are regardless of what you are not. I love you because I see Me in you. No hidden charges. I’m crazy about you, Child. I have loved you with an everlasting love.

This is the agape. Our works didn’t earn it but our good deeds is a testament of His love overflowing from our hearts.

God has loved us through our mess because we are His message of unconditional love. That through our actions to others, they will come to know of a love given underserving

Oh friend, why do we toil and toss away the very thing that began our journey- love?

“This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.”

1 John‬ ‭3:10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Faith without works is dead.

Love without works is dead too. We must demonstrate the love of God in us. Heb:6:10

Demonstration of love completes the cycle of divine love.

“Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favour and a good name in the sight of God and man.”

Proverbs‬ ‭3:3-4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

A heart that hates and seeks evil has not been made perfect in God’s love.

What love is not

Love cannot be found fighting or quarrelling

Love can give up seats in public places for peace to reign.

Love is a peacemaker, pursuing peace in all its dealings.

“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”

Romans‬ ‭12:18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Love cannot be hostile, rude or harsh.

Love is not easily offended nor does it seek revenge.

Love bears no grudges

Love cannot lash out indiscriminately at people.

“And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.”

‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭2:24‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Love is not quick to react.

Love avoids altercation and in unavoidable situation calmly put across its point.

Love is not argumentative.

“Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.”

2 Timothy‬ ‭2:23‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Love does not gossip or backbite:-

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”

Ephesians‬ ‭4:29‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Love is content and does not covet.

Love cannot justify one and judge another for the same offence. We cannot excuse ourselves for falling short yet crucify others for falling into the same pit.

The same grace we give ourselves, extend it.

Love does not seek the harm of another

War or violence, killings or crime would be nonexistent if only we walked in love

Love is corrupt not does it rejoice in evil.

Love is not a feeling we express only when it comes to us. Love is more.

What Love is

Love is kind and peaceful.

Love is patient and bears long.

Love is meeting people genuinely in lack at the point of their needs.

Love does good unconditionally not in expectation of a reward.

Love is a commandment from the Father. The law is fulfilled in love.

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.

You are my friends if you do what I command.

This is my command: Love each other.

”John‬ ‭15:9, 12, 14, 17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We must live by it to truly prove ourselves as Christ’s followers.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.”

John‬ ‭13:34-35‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We don’t love people because they are acting right or doing the things we like. This is easy. Anyone can. Our assignment goes beyond, we are to extend grace to people regardless of how we perceive them because due to human bias, we may judge people unfairly and even in times our judgement might be true, we are still to love them and deal with them wisely.

Imagine if you have just cursed out someone and go to preach to them the following day, whew! God help you!

We witness Christ not just in what we say, our vast knowledge of the Bible, the miracles we can do, our frequent church attendance but also in being love anywhere we go to anyone we meet.

By our strength alone, this would seem an arduous task but to rely solely on the Holy Spirit would give us the grace to grow in love.

Love is the greatest.

Be love!

Be the greatest!

My prayer for you:

“May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you.”

1 Thessalonians‬ ‭3:12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Stay Blessed.

You are loved 💕💕💕

  1. Precious One says:

The greatest of these are those who serve God through love for others. What a reminder that His love came and “served” our needs by the laying down of His life in our stead.
