Be bold enough to use your voice, Brave enough to listen to your heart and strong enough to live the life to have always imagined
A personal experience I had during my final year at the university brings home this invaluable lesson. Over time, I nursed an ambition to get involved in school politics as I was convinced that the position I had the interest to run for would be of great service to the students.
Initially, I was surprised by a few of my friends who thought it was a tall dream as it was my first time and the opposition was formidable, more experienced and better financed. They tried to discourage me from throwing my hat into the ring.
To be honest, it bothered me to a point I considered not going ahead with it but ultimately decided there was nothing to lose if the outcome turns otherwise. I took the bull by the horns and launched my campaign. Within a few weeks into the process, support came trickling in from different quarters.
People I had never met before offered to sponsor me, post and distribute posters and even go on campaign with me. This was mindblowing and despite the initial doubts, fear, discouragement, I came out successful. The victory was a landslide.
From this, I learnt my most valuable lesson, ’Never say Never’ and this has guided me in life up till tomorrow. When people say, I can not do it, I go ahead and do it. Regardless of the end result, at least I gave it a shot.
Through this, I learnt how to reject resignation to fate, took steps to build my faith in the possibility and overcame my doubts placing all my faith in God.
A lot of persons have this self-imposed limit and when they come across dreams their mind cannot comprehend, they would try to discourage you from pursuing it as they cannot fathom how you would be able to do it.
Life is about taking chances, trying out new things but If we always want to stay safe, within the comfort zone or what may seem conceivable, how would we actually discover how awesome we are and how far we can actually go?
Fear is normal when stepping into unfamiliar territories but what is not okay is to let fear stop you from actually pushing through with your vision.
How can we step out of our comfort zones?
Take on new challenges
No challenge can withstand the force of a determined mind. As we desire it so it is delivered to us. It is also true that sometimes we can’t, as we can only flourish in line with our purpose so that outside voice asking us to pause might just be the voice of reason to prevent us from wasting our time. Therefore, it is best to seek the mind of God before you embark on any new endeavour.
Pursue change in areas of our life that seem lack-lustre
Living the life we desire often means to make a big change in our relationships, career, location. If we don’t like it, we change it. You may say, ’oh! it is easier said than done.’ But one step in the right direction every day will get you to the place you are meant to be.
You might be wondering, what is your comfort zone? Pause and think of any activity that makes you feel uncomfortable and vulnerable. Something you have been putting off from doing even though it might turn out beneficial for you. Is it dieting, leaving that terrible relationship, writing a book, starting a business, going back to school and what have you. Doing it anyway is you stepping out of your comfort zone.
Stepping out of the comfort zone entails leaving the known to the unknown
Staying with the familiar is safe but keeps us stuck and stagnant. It robs us of attaining our dreams and aspiration. Most people are content to drift through life impermeable to their potential. They rather avoid risk than venture out and not get out what they hoped for.
Eventually, their self-esteem takes a deep dive due to lack of challenging activity and they label themselves failures. If we are afraid to try because we don’t want to fail, we would never see what is on the other side.
Even as we round up this year and progress into a new year, I implore you to wear your garment of boldness. Nothing changes beyond the height you are willing to go. It is only when we take the first step that we can see the other stair. It is also important to envision the final outcome of the process to fire up your staying power as you will be sustained by the picture of your expected outcome.
Try something new until it becomes second nature to you. There was a time engaging people I don’t know in conversation was the most difficult thing ever for me to do. But I started with one person at a time, getting out of my head and being fully present. Now, my people skills have greatly improved to the extent of being able to walk up to random persons and pitch whatever service/idea I have. I wouldn’t be here doing this if I stuck with my fear of being rejected.
If you feel like you are in a rut, uninspired and emotionally drained? This is for you.
Own your life and Take the leap. Place all your faith in God and trust in His strength. By Him, we can do anything we set out to do. It takes courage to venture out. The good thing is we have the courage in us. We only have to use it.
“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.”
Jeremiah 17:7 NLT
God bless you.
You are loved💜💙💚
