“Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David.”
Isaiah 55:3 NLT
Brethren, do you ever long to hear God clearly or even to hear Him at all? The truth is learning to hear the voice of God is the key to a victorious Christian life. It is the solution to a million and one problems you encounter.
Many Christians come under unnecessary oppression and antagonism simply because they cannot decipher the mind of God in a particular situation. For the mind of God lies in the voice of God. It is the perogative of every believer to hear God and be empowered to live the life God has called you to live.
Therefore, Our question daily should be, God, what are you saying today?
Sometimes, we don’t hear Him because we have allowed the noise of the world to deafen us. Thereby, we open the gates to the lies of the devil because just as much as faith comes by hearing, fear, defeat and negative self-image come by hearing too.
Look around you, today’s culture is constantly on a speed lane with a change in principle every second which tries to dictate the trends we must follow to belong or be accepted.
Life’s distractions pulling at us in every direction that at the end of the day, we are too exhausted to sit still and listen. For It is In our moments of stillness we hear His voice clearly. It is the practice of silence, space we create in our hearts and in the intentionality of our fellowship that He speaks to us.
God’s whispers calls us into a deeper intimacy with Him. He seeks for us beyond the routine devotional or church gatherings. He is actually asking for a quiet time. Just you and Him. He says, come to me with your ears wide open and listen.
Have you ever been in a place where a conversation is being held and you didn’t even grasp a word because even though you were seated right there, your mind was preoccupied with another activity?
It works the same way with the voice of God. We are unable to hear because of the chaos we allow to consume us. For us to enjoy this intimacy with Him, we must eliminate internal or external distractions, embrace calmness and align our hearts and minds to receive His word which comes through the voice.
Can you spot the missing link? The word! To know Him is to hear Him. Read your Bible. The more time we spend in the word, the better our ears open up to His voice.
The voice of God is not limited but all-inclusive. His voice can be encouraging as much as it can reprove. He can prompt us to be still or guide us to motion. In any path it reaches, we cannot chose what word to accept or decline. His words, every single one of it has a purpose – to make our lives better.
“Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.
For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
Proverbs 2:2,6. NLT
Operating in divine knowledge gives us accelerated progress here on earth. It is the key that unlocks our hidden potentials. Christians are called to thrive in whatever we lay our hands on and only the understanding from above can compel this to happen.
God speaks to us through diverse channels, His word, a voice, desires, inspires our dreams and people around us. Sometimes, He can speak through strangers. The ways are inexhaustible. In the same vein, as God speaks, other voices are speaking too so how do you know it is God not satan?
“The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep recognize his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.”
John 10:3 NLT
The more informed you are of the character and nature of God, the better you can distinguish His voice.
For example, I can tell the voice of my parents and siblings even in my dreams because we have spent a lot of time together. I know them, I know what they can say or not. So even though sometimes, I hear a voice that sounds like them and the words don’t align, I discard the voice. Likewise, The voice of God must line up with the word.
The voice of God is warm and soothing, corrects to redeem. The voice of the devil brings panic and confusion, condemnation and defeat.
The voice breathes life into a dead situation. The voice assures us of our worth in Christ. The voice is love and grace.
The voice of God is strength
The voice of God is deliverance
The voice of God is patience
The voice of God is love
The voice of God brings peace.
If God sends us to a place by His voice, He makes provisions.
God would not ask us to take an action against His will. He would not encourage us to Iive in turmoil or anxiety. His voice is there to direct, to protect and to guide.
The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord God’s them by hand.
Psalms 37: 23-24
Don’t hide from God. Hide in Him. Mute the noises and tune in to His frequency. The voice of God insulates us from the plans of the devil. He comforts us in trials and leads us into purpose. We are confident of who we are and our heritage in Christ Jesus.
The voice of God radically transforms. His voice births extraordinary ideas. To be attuned with God’s voice enables us to walk in the integrity of Christ. Our character becomes more Christ-like. We win souls when listening to the voice that says we should overlook, walk in love and patience.
Just like every other activity, the more you practise, the better you get at hearing.
You have spoken in my hearing, and u have heard your very words.
Job 33:8 NLT
People of God, prepare your heart ready to receive. Stay in His presence continually and draw nearer to Him.
Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given —and you will receive even more.”
Mark 4:24 NLT
