4 tools the devil uses against Christians

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭5:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The other day, I watched a documentary on the tiger and the hunting ploys it used against a family of baboons. Tigers are ambush predators and prefer to sneak on their prey. They stalk till they can attack. In this play, the tiger lies in wait for a pack of baboons lounging by the water side, it tries to advance on them but the baboons are alert so they turn on the tiger and chase it away.

Then the tiger returns but this time around, stays far and lie in wait, trailing the baboons as they move. Finally, at night, the baboons climb up the tree, their preferred resting place to sleep. And in that unguarded moment, the tiger moves in and attack killing one of the baboons.

Stalker Alert!

There is a predator on the loose lurking in the shadows waiting for our unguarded moment to jump in and attack. He is stalking our jobs, marriages, family, lives, waiting to see an opening. We understand that God watches over us round the clock but we also have a role to play.

To be “sober” means to have a rational view of ourselves and of the world in its complexity and murkiness, so as not to see Satan at work where only sicknesses are involved. To be “vigilant” means not to let ourselves be lulled into a sense of false security by overlooking the fact that the devil still exists and that he never sleep. For instance, the enemy can try to plant seed of discord in your relationships and he succeed if we allow resentment and bitterness fester in our hearts.

Therefore, we have to focus and cautiously measure each step we take as if we aren’t careful we could slip up. This is why we can’t get lazy in our spiritual life.

Here are 4 tools the devil uses;.

1. Poor Fellowship

As the quality of our worship drops and our time studying the word and praying shortens, we become a magnet for unforgiveness, hatred, malice and other vices that create loopholes in our lives.

2. Unbelief

Can this really happen? Did God say this? Can His love truly cover my past guilt or shame? But nothing is working, why should I do as He has commanded? Oh ye of little faith !

3. Lies

One of his favourite tools.

Because we live in an imperfect world with Satan ruling as the god of this world, we would constantly be bombarded with tribulations. Events would hit us that would make us question the love of God on us. And satan does have a lot of those questions.

You have been serving the Lord diligently, where is the result? You have been believing God for a Job breakthrough but nothing has happened yet. You are waiting to be married still, no light. Where is your God now? Why won’t He help you? Satan would tell you all sorts to get you into believing you are defeated.

As the scripture says, our sufferings in this present world is temporal.

Don’t let him tell you it is over. We cannot afford to entertain his lies. The prize is costly. Do not allow him convince you into believing God has abandoned you. It is what it is. Lies!!!

4. Disobedience

For the sin of disobedience is as the sin of witchcraft

God seeks for people whose heart is willing to be in total submission to Him. He seeks out those who place His word over all. Noah obeyed God by building the ark even against common sense. This is the foundation of our relationship with God – Obedience!. To obey God is proof that we love and trust Him. Recall how you feel when your children disobey you?

Even though as humans we are prone to mistakes so we can mislead our children but yet we desire obedience from them. How much more the Father who can never mislead us? We have no claim as followers of Jesus if we do not obey.

“So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say?

But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house right on the ground, without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.””
‭‭Luke‬ ‭6:46, 49‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Disobedience is a broken hedge through which the enemy comes in to attack us.

Therefore, how can we counter him?

James 4:7 Submit therefore to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you. Completely surrender to God as the devil will deliver blows to us in any area of our lives that is not fully surrendered.

Stand firm—resist him. Grab your weapons and stand your ground.

Ephesians 6:10-13 stand…withstand…stand.

Just as the key to submitting to God is faith (4:19), the key to standing fast against Satan’s attacks is also faith. (vs. 9)

Remember Luke 22. Christ told Peter, Satan has demanded to be able to sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail.

Why faith? Because Satan attacks our faith. He wants us to dilute our confidence in God. He wants us to doubt God’s intentions, God’s plans and God’s goodness. He would try to make you believe God doesn’t care so you can wander away from the presence and protection of God.

God could not have made us, brought us this far just for him to abandon us. He sees our tears, He feels our pain and it breaks His heart. and He says, you never have to bear this alone. Come my Son, Draw nearer my Daughter, lean on me, let me wrap you in the warmth of my love. I will never leave you nor forsake you for I have called you by your name.

Guard your heart with the word. So when he comes, you counter attack with the sword of the truth which is the word of God. Wear your shield of faith against unbelief by casting all your cares on God.

This Christ- like living is a race we must run till the finish line. Be steadfast in service and not grow weary of watching.

May God continue to strengthen and empower us.

Stay blessed

You are Loved 💙💛💙

Satan waits for the unguarded moment. So true. Last night, seeking to unwind, I started reading the news on my mobile device. 30 minutes later, I felt more fear, less trust in God and little hope for the future. It was an uneasy night’s sleep. The Holy Spirit reminded me this morning of the box of notecards I have —filled with some of my favorite scriptures. I should have been reading those!
It’s so easy to let my guard down and put my heart and mind in neutral. Thank you, Angel, for these timely thoughts. I truly found them helpful! God’s best to you!

Powerful post and great warnings! The Lies portion of your post is right on! Satan is the Father of lies and He will sway your mind to believe many untruths. But God has a plan and in waiting He will test us to see who is truly in truth.

Very important word Angel. The analogy of the way the tiger lurks and pounces in an unguarded moment and Satan waiting to pounce on us in our unguarded moments makes it so real.
We have to be aware and abide in the lord every day.
    Blessings 💙
