Ever been through a place when the power was out? It can be disconcerting and ominous. Lights are used to mark houses, streets. Airports runways are tagged with landing lights. Cars. All these lights serve as guidance to point the way to your destination.
It prevents you from fumbling around or stumbling in the dark. You cannot walk into a ditch on a well lighted street.
Light allows people to see. We need light for direction.
In the same vein we Christians are to point the way to heaven/ Jesus. “And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching.”
Titus 2:7 NLT
Christians demonstrate to the world how much God loves them and what Jesus has done to restore their relationship with him by our attitude.
If people follow our example, they should be able to please God. “I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.”
John 13:15 NLT
God is light and lives in us. Light permeates the darkness of this world and shines the truth of God’s word. This is His will. That we walk in light. and those who walk in the light bear good fruits. Fruits of patience, gentleness, love, graciousness, positivity, optimism, kindness, joy.
For the light to shine, we must completely surrender to the Holy Spirit. We cannot always be happy, in a good mood or positive. Therefore in difficult times, we relinquish control and allow the Holy Spirit flow. The more surrendered we are to Him, the better fruits we bear.
God calls us unto a deeper walk with Him. He calls us to be more than just saved. The day we got saved, God redeemed our lives, the day we get called, He requires our life. To be channels of His love and the bridge of reconciliation between Him and those yet to see the light. By glowing, we reveal the nature of the Father to those who are yet to encounter Him.
We project the Light. darkness cannot overcome us. Those who grapple in darkness seek out light for guidance. We must let this light shine in deed. The unsaved must come to know Christ through us.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16 KJV
How do we shine as light?
“Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;”
Philippians 2:14-15 KJV
I do not speak of overt evangelism here but how you conduct yourself in the midst of Christians and non- Christians. What testimonial would your friends, coworkers, employer, Employee, Children give about you? Let’s not forget it is not about us anymore but Him.
It is the light of Jesus who lives in us that radiates through us. “Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
John 8:12 NLT
Be a drop of honey in the sourness of this world.
While others chase after worldly pleasures , approval and selfish gain, we are to distinguish ourselves by placing Christ first above the fleshy desires. What would Christ do if He were standing right where you are? This should be the consciousness of every believer.
We are not of the world so would not act like one. “But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.”
1 Peter 2:9 NLT
As we shine the light, Let’s us remember also that light reflection can be affected by environmental pollution. Though we have God’s spirit and reflect His light, we have to look out for the impact of our society’s models, values, and distractions. It’s almost impossible to be totally unaffected by the world we live in, so we keep vigilance, cover loopholes and undertake frequent cleaning of the vessel that carries the light.
We transmit a greater glory, a higher calling and will stay true to it. Go out. Tell people about Jesus. Not just with words but in attitude. Stand for what is right even if you have to stand alone. “And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light. The nations will walk in its light, and the kings of the world will enter the city in all their glory.”
Revelation 21:23-24 NLT

We are not of this world and so we should not act like it – Amen to that.
May we indeed be a light in the dark.

I absolutely love this! Darkness only exist where there is no light. So if we find ourselves in a dark place, we need only to turn to Jesus for light 💡

Yes, this is a great reminder to not let our light grow dim. Quite often we are the only light some people see that can point them to Jesus! Shine brightly!😊👣
