Exodus 32:2-4 (NIV) “Aaron answered them, ‘Take off the gold earrings that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.’ So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron. He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool. Then they said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.'”
Many of us have created idols for ourselves unknowingly. When you look to the job, spouse, child to come save you, The moment you believe that without someone, your life is over, you have made yourself a golden calf. This is the reason many people stay in bad relationships, job or situation. they cannot see themselves function outside of this. The mere thought of stepping out feels like life is over. So they resort to worship and serve it at whatever cost to retain it.
At the other end, when we think God is too slow or absent so we try to help Him by any means. The Israelites thought the same. and used the very gold God helped them get from the Egyptians to make a golden calf for themselves. The same manner we convert the blessings of God in our lives to gods. and hold the belief that they can save us when we run into trouble or bring us out of a difficult situation.
For starters, salvation from any circumstance can only come from God.
“and in a loud voice they cried out, saying, “Salvation [belongs] to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb [our salvation is the Trinity’s to give, and to God the Trinity we owe our deliverance].””
Revelation 7:10 AMP
The scripture says, I will look up to the hills from whence does my help come? Never at any point can man help you. Men are just channels and God is the source through which help flows for us. God is the only Lord over our lives. The only person our help can come from. You can trust Him.
As believers, staying in the centre of God’s will is our ultimate goal. We must be ready for our lives to be disrupted at any point to suit his will. And don’t worry about whether it would be favourable or not, For the thoughts He thinks towards us are of good. Always. So His will is working out for our good. Holding on too tightly to anyone will rob us of the safety of His will.
As long as we continue to place our hope in men or situations, anxiety would be our constant companion. Their reaction or none action towards you would constantly steal your joy. Men are Failable. No one lives up to every expectation. God is the only person we can place all our eggs in His basket and go to sleep because we know it is safe. Secure banking.
Jesus says that whoever holds on tightly to his life would lose it.
“Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to follow Me [as My disciple], he must deny himself [set aside selfish interests], and take up his cross [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come] and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me].”
Matthew 16:24 AMP
“For whoever wishes to save his life [in this world] will [eventually] lose it [through death], but whoever loses his life [in this world] for My sake will find it [that is, life with Me for all eternity].”
Matthew 16:25 AMP
Right now, your focus may be tilted away from the Father, burdened about your prevailing circumstances, afraid of letting go. Of walking away. Unsure of what the other side holds but I assure you, as long as you are standing in the will of God, regardless of how now looks, there is a future on the other side for you.
If someone wants to leave now, let them go. Stop compromising to keep them. You would be fine without them. Our purpose here on earth is for God’s purpose to be established through us so don’t hesitate to walk away from anything that does not align with this vision.
God is jealous over us. He doesn’t want to share us with anything neither does He want anyone to take His glory. So today, put away everything in your life that has taken the place of God. Cast down your idols and Tear down your golden calf.
You are His. And He takes care of His own.
