-Moving on-

But the Lord says, “Do not cling to events of the past or dwell on what happened long ago. Watch for the new thing I am going to do. It is happening already—you can see it now! I will make a road through the wilderness and give you streams of water there.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43:18-19‬ ‭GNT‬‬

To put in context, God is speaking about another transition period of the Israelites. This time, they’re in exile—not enslaved in Egypt—but shackled by the Babylonians. They miss the old times of their powerful nation, their prominent temple, and the pleasures of their homeland.

This word is not just God’s comforting the Israelites but also applies to us as we transition from one point in life to another.

Do not cling to events of the past or dwell on what happened long time ago.

Wait! What is God saying here? The brain is not a computer you can erase unwanted storage just at the press of a button. It stays with us. We cannot just swipe and forget. There are significant events both good and bad that has happened to us we cannot forget. It is etched in our hearts and mind, all of what has shaped us into what we are.

The point is, we can recall memorable events that has happened to us but we are not allowed to settle there. Staying in the past would alter our perception of the present, prevent us from seeing the beauty in today and distort our expectation of the future.

We can also get dangerously comfortable with our present because we keep comparing it to the past. Don’t get me wrong, it is good to reminisce on how far God has brought us but there is a time to stop and move forward. There is always better ahead.

Lingering in the past projects a lack of faith in God. We believe we cannot be healed from the hurt that has happened to us and we can not improve from the good we have experienced. This is boxing GOD into our circumstances rather than looking at our circumstances through His eyes.

The memories would come, but let it fade immediately. Do not pour in energy or start analyzing what is and what could have been because What you focus on, you empower. No matter what we do, we cannot alter the past or bring it to the present.

Step out from the closet. Shut the door and keep moving.

Watch for the new thing I am going to do. It is happening already—you can see it now! I will make a road through the wilderness and give you streams of water there.”

It would be impossible to see what lies ahead if we keep looking back. Reptiles shed their skin. Eagles lose their feathers. The good has served you. The bad has toughened you. It is time to move.

Old habits won’t give you new results. As believers, God’s mercy over us is new every morning so we are given the grace to start all over. The past do not have to keep us on a leash.

God’s ’I am doing a new thing’ is a present as active verb. He is working non-stop in our favour. Not back in the past or the good ole days.

But now! God is doing a great thing now. He knows our struggles with the past. He wants us to look up and ahead and see what He is preparing for us. Eyes have not seen, ears have not heard neither has it come into the heart of man what God has planned for us.

In our weakness, times we cannot go on anymore, His strength is made perfect. He brings alive seemingly dead situations.

Look ahead Friend, Can you see the way God is making? This is what the faith of a believer entails. We do not believe because we see, we see because we believe. Yesterday is not God’s best for us. We all have something exciting to look forward to.

As the year comes to an end, we all have baggage to offload, a memory to let go and a door to shut. Dear Friends, we serve a God who has the best plans for us. we cannot change until we move on and move forward until we get emotionally unstuck from yesterday’s thinking and living. Only then can we pursue God’s dream of who we are meant to be.

We have to shift our minds and change our plans. We have to let go of the usual and open our mind to potentials of who we are supposed to be that may make no sense to anyone, just as walking through the Red Sea made no sense until it was done. This is exactly how God’s dream happen. Let go and Move on.

The Holy Spirit is here to help. Ask Him to help you let go.

I leave with this verse;

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3:13-14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

As you mentioned, dwelling in the past is a habit that can prevent us from believing the Lord is doing good and better things in our lives. We fail to participate in the new ways the Lory is improving our lives. It’s difficult to change but God through His Holy Spirit enables us to look forward in faith. You have shared an amazing post, Angel.

Thank you for sharing this. I have been going over the past, and regretting it, way too much lately.
As you noted, both the good and the bad have served their purpose, but it’s still the past. Keep moving forward!

Excellent post, as always! Blessings to you, and Merry Christmas!
